New Year's Eve on the west coast

Well, it's officially the end of 2009. I expect an exciting 2010 here on the coast. 2010 Olympics are only 2 months away, then it's whale fest, followed by the usual summer madness. The O'Neill Cold Water Classic is coming back next year AND I think I'm getting married !?

For Long Beach Radio listeners the big news is our move towards local ownership, I can't say hope happy I will be to be a genuine local radio station. Here's the view from our office on New Year's Eve (I'm not sure if the link will work if you don't have photosynth or silverlight installed)

On a related New Years note, Cam Dennison will be in for a Special New Years Eve show. His special brand of madness should work nicely. Our sponsor for the New Years Eve Show "Ocean Planet Adventures" has an exciting year coming too, new shop and new baby!!! Congrats to Andy and Chrissy

This time of year it can be tough to keep your head up, it's dark and wet, days are short. What's surprising is the number of things to do. No real "down-time" like I was expecting.

Well, talk to you next year, thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.

Holiday Recovery

It's Boxing Day and things are great on the west coast, we're in the middle of a week of sunshine and I'm stuff full from dinner last night.

Some things coming up in the next week; of course New Years Eve has parties galore, but I'm really excited about January. When the Oneill Coldwater Classic rolled through they brought a ton of video crew and put together a documentary on Tofino and the competition. Tourism Tofino has asked me to introduce/ emcee a screening on the film on January second for the competitors, volunteers, and such. Can't wait to see the vid.

Doing a big library update here at the station, got a lot of new Canadian talent to showcase. That should also tie in nicely with the improved audio quality in Ukee. All sorts of things are coming together in Long Beach Radio land. Expect a lot of fun in the new year.

Thanks for listening.

Long Beach Radio in Coming Home!!!

Negotiations are underway for a new and exciting development at Long Beach Radio! Soon Long Beach Radio will be a fully locally owned and operated business, making it a truely rare jewel in the broadcasting world. Things should be sorted by February or so, stay tuned for updates.

A recent re-tooling in the Ukee end of the station has made for a big boost in audio quality down there I'm pleased to say.

In other news, Holidays are under foot and New Years is just around the corner. Tons of Parties going on. The Clayoquot Orca Lodge is hosting a party in the Chuckling Oyster Lounge, The Weigh West is putting something together in the Dockside Pub. Perennial parties include the Legion and the Schooner.

I'm not sure just yet where I'll be on second one of 2010 but I'm almost more excited for January... a calm before the Olympics and then the build to the summer here.

Just a short one, Holiday madness is whoopin' me. Thanks for listening.

Astonished

If last year's Hospice Radiothon was a huge success (and I think most would agree it was) than we can only call this year's event an astronomical success. West Coast listeners came forth in amazing numbers and we raised more than $5000, about double the amount from last year!!! Especially touching was the fact that donations came from every angle, from Bamfield and Nanaimo in addition to the usual places, even Lennard lighthouse!

So thank you everyone for your donations both for donor gifts and cash donations, the difference that you will make for Hospice is truly great and I feel humbled to see so many people get behind the cause. Plese look back at the last blog entry and you'll get an idea of many of the donations we recieved.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for supporting the 2nd Annual Pacific Rim Hospice Society Fund Raising Radiothon.
