A Quick Update From The Beach

I'm sitting in the late August sun on a warm sandy beach. Thinking to my self how silly it would be to go anywhere else. Sure I'm "blogging" on my iPhone and some might say that's not really in the proper spirit for a trip to the beach. I see it another way; this is precisely the spirit for a day in the office. I could be sitting in Long Beach Radio World Headquarters (which is still likely the most scenic radio station on the planet) but I have the absurd luxury of being able do much of my job as I stare out at Frank Island.

I also have the amazing priviledge of playing a small part in some amazing things. Surf competitions, arts festivals, fundraisers of all sort. Some days I can help reunite a kid with a missing pet and some days I can just sit on my little room at the end of the dock and chill out sharing some great music with our listeners.

I guess I'm eventually trying to get to some sort of "be thankful for what you've got/ make the most of every moment" point here. As I sit enjoying my blessed life I am acutely aware of the hardships people face. With the recent passing of a prominent west coast figure, the declining health of a family member of one of the Long Beach Radio Team and a mad world of hostage taking, trapped miners, and madmen torturing roommates it can be hard to remember to take the time for yourself. We have a casual host you may know of by the name of Tommy Curley and if you listen to his show you'll find his message is pretty simple; "Feel good". Some times I've heard people comment that he says it too much. I don't think anyone says it enough.

To those around us here at the radio station who may be suffering, working a bit too hard, lonely or whatever I beg you to do what Tommy does and laugh. Take whatever situation you're in, forget about it for 30 seconds and force a good laugh. I think you'll find the laughter will become pretty natural in a second and your troubles a little lighter.

I sure ain't no doctor but I impersonate one on the radio some times and I have really only to things to prescribe. In nearly all cases it's laughter. The exception, Zombies, require fire. Thanks for listening.
