Just thought I'd post some fun things here for you to get you in the Hallowe'en mood. The Weigh West is having a big party Saturday night you won't want to miss and if you need something to get you feelin' spooky just keep reading.
Here is the old Disney Halloween album I was referring to all morning on the show.
Part 2
I posted this the other day but it's worth another go;
Of course, the one and only THRILLER
Something for the drama geeks
And perhaps, scariest of all, my costume from last year ZomPete DeVries...
Have a happy and safe Hallowe'en, Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio

Chris Lowther Poetry Book Launch and Tofino Film Festival All In One Day
When it rains it pours. This make sense literally in these rainforest climes and figuratively in Long Beach Radio Land. Tonight is the first night of the Tofino Film Festival and local author Chris Lowther is launching her second book of poetry, "My Nature". I was able to talk to Lowther and Film Festival organizers Kim and Hailey this morning. Here are the fruits of those chats in chronological order.
Chris Lowther
And the film festival:
Oddly enough there's such a thing as a video from a local film festival STARRING CHRIS LOWTHER... here it is;
Heck here's another, hastily produced music video featuring a number of Long Beach Radio friends including Chris, a very handsome bass player and a somewhat intoxicated Cam Dennison on drums. Other notables are Roger Plant and Shirley Langer as well as one time Long Beach Radio personality Tim Martel, filmed by Warren Rudd... lousy recording by me... YouTubeification messed the audio quality of even worse than my mixing but it was a lot of fun
Anywho... That's it for today's blog update, thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.

Just got my Flu shot.... Hope the alien mind control lasers don't find me.
I like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy (who is an Illuminati puppet sent here from the dog-star, Sirius to harvest my psychis energy to use it to revive an army of Templars) but I got my Flu shot anyway. It was free on account of my diabetes and so far I haven't joined a cult or picked up CIA radio transmission... unless that's what the CIA cult's radio transmissions are telling me to think...
The weekend's storms have passed and it looks like a couple nice days til this weekend's storms roll in. Here are a couple quick iPhone picks of a lovely morning earlier this week.
Lone Cone, always equally menacing and embracing the community of Opitsaht. This view is right out our studio window.

Out the other window is the first street dock and Mount Colnett. The broadcasting biz could learn a lot from Long Beach Radio's "location, location, location" business model.
It's Halloween this weekend of course and there is a ton of stuff going on. I've touched on most of it in the last few posts so I'll just waste some of your time with some silly videos. Both from the "how I spent my summer vacation" category.
AND
Lastly... It's DICK TRICKLE'S BIRTHDAY yell it as loud as you can at work today!!
Well that's about that, thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio and don't forget to get your Flu Shot so the World Bank can reincarnate Zombie John Lennon.
Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!

Stormy Weather, Tragic Times on the West Coast
First, a moment for the paramedics who lost their live in a tragic accident last week. People who devote themselves personally and professionally to saving lives and helping others are a high priority for me. Often we take these people for granted. I have friends who are paramedics, RCMP, military, fire fighters... and while I may not always agree with a certain law and I rarely support a war I appreciate the efforts of emergency service providers. First responders have dragged me out of some sticky situations.... I'm only saying things that many more would be better qualified to. There is a story on westcoaster.ca about a memorial event being set up in Tofino on Nov. 6. I encourage you all to attend.
I also encourage you to give the families of the victims the space and privacy they need to grieve, something that is hard to come by in the high profile situation like this. Support, not smothering.... There was some misunderstanding during this morning's broadcast where I was misheard directing the public to a private ceremony. Let me assure you that I wasn't aware of the event and would never see it as my appropriate for me to mention it without being asked to by the family.
Moving on, it's storm season alright... nearly 30 foot swell on the beaches, 90km/h winds and 50+mm of rain a day. It's been feeling like winter for the first time this year too, the kind of days where you're more inclined to climb into a rum and eggnog than a wetsuit. We took in the storm yesterday from the Great Room in the Long Beach Lodge with a pint and a cheese plate then made our way out the sunset point to check it out... I forgot my iPhone but I did visit the beach today and get a little vid which I've contrasted with a vid from a few days back...
Halloween is just a few days away and there are parties planned all over the coast, just look for a poster :P I'm still not sure of a costume... I spend all year saying "that would be a great costume" then I don't even have a decent costume when the time comes.
Before Halloween though there are a couple of great Canadian bands rolling into the Tofino Legion. "Paper Lions", "Library Voices", and "Bend Sinister" are rocking out Thursday Night. Paper Lions may be familiar to some a the Chucky Danger Band... Bend Sinister has been out here before and dropped into the studio for an interview which you can find on our audio page, We've been spinning a few of their tunes since then and it'll be good to see those guys rock again. Here are some videos of the bands in question;
I love that pianos are coming back to rock and roll!!!
That's it for now. Thanks for listening to long beach radio

Some Fun Distractions
Remember Erica? She's done an evening show for us the last 2 summers "The Hustle" last year and "The Love Club" this past summer. Her shows have always been well recieved. Anyway, she's off at school out east and I was chatting with her on Facebook this morning... while I don't really wish to repeat too much of that some of the sentiments spilled onto the morning show today. If you missed it you'll get a bit of the picture from the bits below;
I love Futurama SOOOOOOOOO much, but in the interested of journalistic impartiality this is pretty good too.
and, for no paricular reason... some of the most brilliant video ever made;
Ok, now I've gone all A.D.D. and suppose the only cure is Xbox... Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.

Thanks For The Party
Just thought I'd update the blog now that the O'Neill Cold Water Classic Canada has wrapped up out here. It was a great event, from the quality of the weather, the surf, the whole thing was a blast.
Long Beach Radio had a great time covering it from the beach. The Canadian boys did great; Pete DeVries, Sepp Bruhwiler and Ben Murphy made particularly exciting runs and I'd say we're proud of all of them.
Thanks to the Wickaninnish Inn for sponsoring our coverage, Tourism Tofino and the O'Neill folks for keeping us in the loop. Most inportantly I'd like to thank everyone who listened, especially those who couldn't care less about surfing.
See you on the beach next year and good luck to the competitors as they head to Santa Cruz for the next CWC event next week.
Now we turn to other things. Many people seem to feel that there is nothing to do out here on the coast in the winter. Well let's have a look at some of the things coming up;
-Tomorrow is the Ucluelet Aquarium Release Day
-The end of October you can catch the Tofino Film Festival
-Halloween is always a party out here
-November plays host to The Oyster Festival
That's before we get into the Holiday Season and I've probably missed a bunch of other good stuff. I'll try to keep on top of stuff as it comes up.
Thanks for listening to Long Beach Radio.
